The Magic of Massage
26th June 2023Treatments that Work For You: Choosing the Perfect Day Spa Treatment
20th July 2023At Unique Day Spa in Dublin, we focus on developing and providing a space designed to encourage total relaxation and indulgence.
That’s why we’re pleased to announce the development and opening of our new infrared sauna facility.
The Benefits of Using an Infrared Sauna
We all know about traditional saunas, heated by air or steam to help everyone work up a sweat. They’ve existed for hundreds, if not thousands, of years and largely followed the same model of heating.
The development of infrared saunas has introduced a new option to the spa world and we’re going to dig into the benefits for you!
Get your swimwear on, grab a towel and sit yourself down!
What is an Infrared Sauna?
Infrared saunas apply the same principle of heating a small room to a warm enough temperature to help you get a sweat on!
In this case, instead of using air or steam, infrared saunas use infrared light heaters (the clue is in the name) to create and emit a strong heat.
Infrared saunas are typically slightly cooler than a traditional sauna, but it’s thought that the heat generated penetrates the body more easily and quicker, resulting in an overall better experience for anyone who enters.
Infrared Sauna Benefits:
Infrared saunas provide all the expected benefits of a traditional sauna, as we detail below, but they also provide something slightly different in terms of speed and targeted heat. Both benefits are connected in how they work.
Speed & Efficiency
Arguably the biggest benefit, because of the way infrared light heat actually works, infrared saunas heat up quicker than traditional and do so with less energy required in the first place.
This is because traditional saunas have to work to heat the entire room, filling it with heat in the form of steam and warm air.
On the infrared side, the heat is targeted.
Targeted Heat
As we’ve said, the benefits are intertwined and part of the speed factor of infrared saunas is the fact the heat is targeted specifically towards your body.
Infrared sauna manufacturers promote the fact that up to 80% of the heat energy created is used to heat your body, with just 20% going towards the air within the sauna room.
Due to this technology, you’ll work up a sweat quicker, feel more a targeted and intense form of heat, and hopefully then experience all the other benefits you would want as you relax and indulge in this age-old practice.
Benefits of Sauna Treatment
The benefits of saunas are well-known and we’ve covered them in more depth here, but essentially regular sauna use can result in:
- Detoxing the body
- Improved skin health
- Pain relief (e.g. muscle tension etc.)
- Improved blood flow/circulation
- Improved stress levels
Sauna treatment is also considered to be beneficial in seeking out improved sleep, easing joint pains, and weight loss.
These benefits are found in both traditional and infrared saunas.
Dublin Day Spa
We hope this helps in shedding more light on the key differences between traditional and infrared saunas.
As you can see, the end result is largely the same but each version is slightly different in terms of how the sauna is heated, and how that heat interacts with your body whilst inside the sauna.
